Unless the sanction is reduced, Keita Balde will not be able to participate in the Qatar 2022 World Cup with the Senegalese team. The striker who was born in Arbúcies (Girona) and trained at the Barça academy was suspended by FIFA for three months for violating the anti-doping control protocol last season when he played for Cagliari.
Keita Balde will remain suspended until December 5, ruling him out of the 2022 World Cup, which will be held from November 20 to December 18 in Qatar. Senegal will be drawn in group A and face the Netherlands on November 21, four days later against the hosts and on the 29th against Ecuador.
Spartak Moscow, the club he signed for in August, announced that Keita Balde was “suspended by the Italian National Anti-Doping Court” and, despite not specifying what his infraction was during the anti-doping control after Udinese- Cagliari in April, stressed that “the sample taken did not find prohibited substances”.
However, Spartak Moscow added that “any doping-related sanction imposed by another national or international sports federation, or national anti-doping organization, is automatically accepted by FIFA and must be recognized by all confederations and associations .”
He couldn’t even train at the club
Keita Balde cannot return to training with Spartak until 22 days before the suspension expires, according to FIFA regulations. At the age of 27, the striker scored 6 goals in 40 games for Senegal and helped them win the African Cup for the first time in their history in February.
After training at Damm and Barça, Keita Balde made his professional debut at Lazio and then played for Monaco, Inter, Sampdoria and Cagliari.
