Qatar shared this Tuesday at Concordia Summit in New York some of the knowledge he gained in the decade of preparation for 2022 World Cup with the aim of serving as an “example” for future host countries.
“We want to support future countries to be inspired and used Qatar for example. We didn’t just run this 30-day tournament, we went beyond that. Our legacy began with the first decision-making”, he explained to Efe Naser al Juriexecutive director of “Amazing Generation”, a program of cultural change through soccer Delivery and Legacy Committee of the Arab nation.
THE LEGACY OF THE WORLD CUP
The expert emphasized the human, social or infrastructural heritage, among others, that this sporting event will leave Qatar and that it is something that has been considered since the beginning to leave a mark on emirate, which will organize the Soccer World Cup in November and December.
“One of the most important (legacies) is that of sustainability, the stadiums are very sustainable. We also have a plan for the stadiums that will close after the World Cup. There is a stadium that is very unique, we call it the Lego stadium , which will be completely destroyed after the World Cup,” said Al Juri.
Since the start of the Concordia Summit event, which will be held within the framework of the United Nations National Assembly on Monday, various country representatives have participated in talks and round tables.
FOOTBALL DIPLOMACY
This Tuesday Hassan Al Thawadi, general secretary of the Organization and Legacy Committee and responsible for managing FIFA World Cup Qatar projects, stamped his signature on an association agreement between Concordia and the Qatari Committee.
Accompanied by American Olympic medalist Ibtihaj Muhammad, Al Juri assured that “the role of women in terms of empowerment through sport” is something the organizers take into account when changing Qatar.
On Wednesday, the last day of the Concordia Summit, there will also be a round table on sports diplomacy and development.
“We want to share some of our best practices in terms of organizing a mega sports event like the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, but also, (share) how the mega sports event can be used to spread our legacy , whether it is an impact on society, on workers, labor and welfare reforms or sustainability,” he added.
Regarding the stereotypes people may have of Qatar, Al Juri said the best way to really get to know the country is by visiting or watching the World Cup.
“There are many misconceptions and stereotypes that need to be broken. I think that watching the World Cup is the only way to do it, people need to visit us and we invite everyone to come to see who we are to meet the Arab . culture,” he said.
THE SCIENCE OF BEHAVIOR
Another pioneering technique that will be used at this year’s World Cup and could be key to future sporting events is behavioral science to create the so-called “choice architecture.”
Dr. Fadi Makki, who participated in one of the panels of the event on Tuesday, explained to Efe that people do not always act rationally and that this science, used in sociology, politics and economics, helps to map the decisions that people make. take
“One of the things we will do is to make sure that the healthy food that will be given is really the right choice among the right choices,” the doctor exemplified.
