Remy Gardner, Pedro Acosta’s best ally to win again in Moto2

Date:

Both share a home, KTM, and both were world champions in their respective categories last year

Mazarrón rider Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Ajo) has found great support in Australian Remy Gardner in the paddock of the Motorcycle World Championship, where it is always difficult to make friends. Both share a home, KTM, and both were named world champions last year, the Spaniard in Moto3 and the Sydney rider in Moto2. Gardner, 24 years old and son of former 1987 500cc World Champion Wayne Gardner, frequently acts as Acosta’s “big brother”, who turned 18 last May.

For example, the ‘Shark of Mazarrón’ confessed last Sunday that his victory in the GP of Aragon, the second he achieved in Moto2 this year and the first after his broken thigh and subsequent surgery, was largely due to the “rest” which was passed on to him by the members of his team and the advice of Gardner, who will be competing with the KTM Tech 3 in MotoGP this season.

«Remy» [Gardner] It has helped me a lot this year. That he cared so much about me when things went wrong and when things went right has been very important. I made seven outs this season and last year I only made two. When I crashed at Le Mans, Remy [Gardner] he took me and told me clearly; “I’m not going to tell you anything now. It’s a thorn you’re going to have there and you’ll see how you don’t fall next time,” said the man from Mazarrón after his sensational victory at the Alcañiz (Teruel) circuit last Sunday.

About his fall while motocross in Ceutí and his two long months off, Acosta downplayed the matter. “The injury came because it had to come, things happen for a reason. Now if I happened to fight for the World Championship, that says I would reach MotoGP next year and crash. And it would be even worse. So it’s better that the injury (stuff) has stopped a bit because who tells you it will be better in the future,” he explained.

With no chance of winning the title, his goal in the final stretch of the championship is to “win races” and “finish in the top three of the overall standings.” He is currently sixth, with 123 points, 54 behind Arón Canet (third).
