Roger Federer will bid farewell to professional tennis with a doubles match with Rafa Nadal within the framework of the Laver Cup in London.
The order of play this Friday revealed the long-awaited couple, who already competed in the first edition of Laver, in Prague 2017. Federer and Nadal’s rivals will be American Jack Sock and Frances Tiafoe.
The match will be played on Friday, in the night shiftafter the singles duel between Andy Murray and Alex de Miñaur which starts at 8:00 pm (Spanish peninsular time).
This will be Federer’s only match at the Laver Cup, as the Swiss has warned that he is not physically ready to play singles matches.. This is also their first meeting since losing in the 2021 Wimbledon quarterfinals.
Federer arrived in London on Monday, before holding a press conference in which he detailed the reasons for his retirement, aged 41 and after barely playing 20 matches in more than two-and-a-half years. Nadal, for his part, landed this Thursday in London, after working out at his academy in Manacor.
The Spaniard, who is awaiting the birth of his first child, has not competed since falling in the round of 16 of the last US Open.
