The first classic of the 2022-2023 season will be played on Sunday, October 16 at 4:15 PM at the Santiago Bernabéu and will be broadcast exclusively on DAZN. Real Madrid will host Barcelona on matchday nine of the League, five days after meeting Shakhtar in Warsaw in the Champions League, giving them more time to prepare for the classic, as the Catalans face Inter Milan on December 12 in Camp Nou the same month.

LaLiga has set the game between Spanish football’s perennial rivals in the early afternoon of Sunday, October 16, so it can be followed in the United States and Latin America, as well as much of Asia. Madrid-Barça will arrive marked by the precedent of last season, when Barça defeated the whites 0-4 on March 20, already with Xavi Hernández on the bench and without Karim Benzema in the championship ranks as the French striker was injured.

On October 16, Carlo Ancelotti’s team will have al Benzema, who is sure to appear again on Sunday against Osasuna, while Barca will have it without Ronald Araujo or Jules Koundé. The Uruguayan defender could even miss the World Cup in Qatar, as Araujo’s absence could last a month and a half after he suffered an adductor injury in his right thigh with his national team. In the Frenchman’s case, he sustains an injury to the femoral biceps of his left thigh and will be out of action for about a month.

Without Araujo or Koundé, Barca will therefore have only three pure central defenders (Eric García, Christensen and Pique) to face Real Madrid, which, barring setbacks in the following matches or training, will have all its troops on the attack. Among them except Benzema, Vinicius, Rodrygo, Asensio and Hazard.
