The Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) will open an investigation into accusations of sexual harassment against current Famalicao women’s coach Miguel Afonso.
Several players from the Rio Ave women’s team accused Afonso of sending them intimate messages when he was the team’s coach, during the 2020-21 season, the newspaper Público revealed on Thursday.
“Many written and verbal messages” between the coach and the players, then between 18 and 20 years old, said the aforementioned newspaper.
Famalicao signed him despite the accusations
Despite the fact that the accusations of the young women were transferred to the Famalicao board, the coach signed for the women’s team of the national first division club.
Afonso has now denied the accusations and, in statements to CNN Portugal, limited himself to pointing out that “there is a strange set up here.”
According to the portal “Maisfutebol” (More football), the Disciplinary Council of the Portuguese Football Federation will open a disciplinary process to investigate the case
