“Safest report” – Storm reporter causes a stir with condom

Date:

Hurricane Ian has wreaked havoc in Florida. But prudish Americans had something else on their mind…

One of the strongest hurricanes in Florida history, “Ian” made landfall in the U.S. state of Florida, bringing with it severe winds, rain, and storm surges.

Wind speeds up to 240 km/h
Reaching speeds of up to 150 mph, the storm reached the west coast of the sunny state Thursday night and was just below the threshold for the highest hurricane category, the National Hurricane Center reports. The storm weakened as it moved inland, but continued its course of destruction.

Experts warn people not to leave their homes
On Thursday morning, wind speeds of up to 100 km/h were measured. Meteorologists downgraded the hurricane to a tropical storm but warned people not to leave their homes. There is still danger – for example from flying debris and exposed power lines.

In fact, the extent of the destruction only became apparent in the course of Thursday. Cars drove through several meters of streets. ‘Ian’ had smashed lanterns and trees like matches. Houses were covered, garages and garden sheds were carried away. Two million people are without electricity.

Reporter has to swallow Shitstorm
As if there were no other concerns, a reporter now faces a shitstorm. Viewers were outraged that Kyla Galer had protected her microphone from wind and rain with a condom.

Reporter: ‘Microphones should not get wet’
She explained: “The microphones are not allowed to get wet, so we had to make do with a condom”. While some viewers on social media joked that it was “the safest report ever”, many others were angry: “There are kids watching – you can’t do that!”
