F1 Singapore: Disaster for Alonso due to another failure of his Alpine

Date:

It should be a day of celebration for Fernando Alonso. He started 5th at the Singapore F1 GP, dreaming of a podium since his excellent classification in mixed conditions on Saturday and surpassing the historic record for most Grands Prix in F1, with 351. If he finishes, he will surpass the highest number of races finished in F1 with 279. But everything went wrong and the Spaniard ended up leaving due to the umpteenth reliability failure of his Alpine.

The Spanish driver started the race poorly, losing two positions at the start to Norris and Gasly. He regained sixth place by overtaking the Frenchman in a masterful maneuver on the first lap and managed to keep a weakened Verstappen behind, with the Dutchman unable to overtake him due to his excellent defence. But on lap 22, his car gave out due to what Alonso said on the radio, an engine problem.

The Asturian pilot retired in the previous appointment, in the Italian F1 GP, when he was also in a position to add some good points. The Spaniard added his second retirement after accumulating 10 Grand Prix points in a row. Setbacks returned due to the poor reliability of his Alpine which hurt so much at the start of the course. He entered race 6 with just two points due to his car’s many failures at the start of the year, and after his good result later on, the Spaniard was placed 7 points behind Ocon. In sixth position and Ocon not scoring in this event, the Spaniard would have passed Esteban by one point in the general classification, but he left Singapore again with a zero.

Ocon stopped 4 laps later

Four laps later, the Alpine disaster ended with the abandonment of Esteban Ocon, apparently due to another engine failure, as the Frenchman’s car produced a large amount of smoke before stopping. Ocon tried to get back on track but said on the radio that he couldn’t due to some problems.
