Chase Elliott surpassed Ryan Blaney in the final corner in an intense two-lap duel at Talladega Superspeedway this Sunday to advance to the next round of NASCAR Cup Series playoffsbecause he won the Yella Wood 500 in Talladega, Ala.
He started the race fifth, but Elliott returned to the top spot for his 18th career win. The win was his fifth of the season and saw him advance to next week’s Round of 8 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
After a second place finish for Blaney, Michael McDowell He finished in third position after a tight gap to the first two. McDowell staged one of the great comebacks of the day as he started the race from 29th position.
