Francisco, fired as coach of Elche

Date:

The Almeria coach saved the Franjiverdes from relegation last year, but adding just one point out of a possible 21 this season has seen him convicted.

Elche, bottom of the First Division, this morning announced the resignation of their coach Francisco Rodríguez after Monday’s (2-1) loss against Rayo Vallecano in Vallecas. He thus becomes the first coach to leave the office in the highest category and he does so after just seven days of competition.

Almeria’s coach, who was on contract until June 30, arrived at the club last November to replace Fran Escriba when the team found themselves in a critical situation and saved it from relegation three days before the end of the championship.

Francisco leaves the team from Elche in last position of the table and with a balance of just one point out of a possible 21. After falling in Vallecas after a goal by Unai López in the last breath, the franjiverde coach himself acknowledged that the sporting situation was untenable.

The club thanked Almeria’s coach in a statement on its website and social networks at 1am for “the work and dedication during his time as a franchisor, helping him achieve permanence in LaLiga Santander last season.” “Elche would like to wish Francisco and his coaching staff every success, both personally and in his professional career,” the statement concludes.
