Spain and Portugal include Ukraine in candidacy for the 2030 World Cup

Date:

The project, made official on Wednesday at UEFA headquarters, aims to “serve through football as a source of inspiration for society, with a transformative message of solidarity and hope”

The Spanish Football Federation (FEF) and its Portuguese counterpart (FPF) have included the Football Federation of Ukraine (UAF) in the Iberian bid to host the 2030 World Cup. The proposal, announced on Wednesday at UEFA’s headquarters in Nyon, has UEFA’s unconditional support in a global project that is transforming European football in an exceptional situation.

Luis Rubiales and Fernando Gomes, the top leaders of both organizations, understand that there is nothing better than a World Cup to powerfully convey a message that will serve as a source of inspiration in the future.

With the maximum support of UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin, the Iberian candidacy includes the federation chaired by Andriy Pavelko to build bridges and spread a message of unity, solidarity and generosity from across European football.

The candidacy strengthens ties with Europe by instilling hope and providing reconstruction tools to the Ukrainian people, who have expressed their pride and gratitude for participating in this project.

The coordinating committee for the 2030 World Cup, headed by Antonio Laranjo, is already working with Ukraine’s participation, which will soon include members of its delegation. The Ukrainian arrival does not change the established roadmap: Spain will keep its 11 locations and Portugal will continue with three.

The candidacy of Spain, Portugal and Ukraine has received approval from both the government chaired by Pedro Sánchez and the Royal House. And it ensures that it meets all expected delivery times according to the FIFA order book. “We are confident that the world football family will embrace and support this initiative,” said Rubiales and Gomes.
