Aytekin forgives Bellingham’s red card against Bayern and explains it on TV

Xavi Hernandez leading the charge in the Spanish LaLiga and the Champions League. The Barça coach asks the referees to explain their decisions to the media at the end of the matches, understanding that in this way all doubts about the regulations or the involvement of VAR will be clearer. In the Bundesliga there is more transparency in this sense, as shown in the appearance of Deniz Aytekin on Sky Sport to explain why he isn’t firing Jude Bellingham for accidentally kicking Alphonso Davis in the face shortly before the break between Borussia Dortmund-Bayern Munich (2-2). Not only did he show him a straight red card, apparently the right thing to do in an action that also forced the dizzy left-back to change, but he also didn’t show him a second yellow card, as Bellingham already had one.

“Davies put his head down a bit and I lacked the conviction to show him the second yellow card, he conditioned me that maybe the first one wasn’t very clear,” he explained. Aytekin, the referee of Barça’s 6-1 win over PSG in the 2015-16 Champions League. He added that “I can understand anyone who has a different opinion on the decision, but that’s football.” He was referring to a tackle by Bellingham on Musiala at the start of the game where he handled the ball, but lifted the Bayern striker into the air.

His argument did not convince Bayern. Manuel Neuerthe captain, replied that “it was certainly not an intentional kick, you have to say that in defence Bellingham. Aytekin he told us at half-time that Davies’ head was too low. But we heard from the referees that a kick to the head should be punished with a red. The referee has to apply that using VAR.”

In the same line, Julian Nagelmannthe Bayern coach, commented that “Davies has a possible concussion. It’s not surprising given the kick to the face. We had a course with the referees four months ago. They told us that a kick to the face is a red card. No Kailangang talk about it. That’s not a yellow card, that’s a red card.”
