Verstappen and Red Bull, leaders for years

Date:

The undeniable superiority of the Dutch diamond and the precision with which his team has acted guarantee the continuity of its dominance in Formula 1

With four races to say goodbye to the season, Max Verstappen has taken his second Formula 1 world title, and he has obviously done so with undeniable authority. The Dutch diamond has limited its rivals to the mere role of extras as the course has progressed, but he was not alone in this feat and the Red Bull team has worked like clockwork. With Mercedes – ever its fiercest rival – lost in technical fickleness, those of Milton Keynes have outdone themselves until they dominate the grid at will.

The RB 18 wasn’t the best car at the start of the championship and took several races to finish, remember? But the feeling from the start was that his thing was nothing more than a lack of coupling, of bringing together all the new elements that made up it. Although it seems far in time, there were circuits where Ferrari shone so much that they considered themselves favourites, until the harsh reality finally got the better of them. The Italians were unfortunately watered down and Red Bull has not stopped developing the single-seater with sufficient solvency to consider that its superiority could last until the appearance of a new technical regulation around 2026. In that case it would not be unreasonable to

The Dutchman is leading the energy on all fronts, he is looking for perfection and, as he says, it is no longer just about winning. He rules the asphalt with an iron fist and away from him grows his public figure. It has achieved such relevance in his country that it can be compared to the sociological phenomenon that Fernando Alonso represented in Spain twenty years ago. At the time, the man from Oviedo was the first national driver to win an F-1 race and the championship. In Max’s case, he was also the first Dutchman to achieve both awards and his popularity has multiplied. Go-kart tracks are flourishing in the Netherlands and not a few emulators of the champion have appeared, does that ring a bell? The amount of commitments on his agenda has reached such a caliber that his management has been entrusted to a specialized agency under the supervision of his father Jos.

With Madrid running to host a Formula 1 Grand Prix, it seems clear that Zandvoort would not have re-hosted the Grand Circus without Verstappen’s performance. There, even the Dutch royal family bet heavily on getting their top prize back and today they control the company that runs the race and report huge profits. The new enfant terrible of the Great Circus is already an adult who collects titles, who is victorious in Red Bull and who manages an important patrimony. Those who work with him say that he also has enough talent to get along perfectly with his technicians and to motivate his people to get the best out of the car.

Christian Horner -head of the team- for his part has spent 18 years at the helm of Red Bull Racing and there is no indication that he is showing the wear and tear of the position. On the contrary, the way the team has been structured over the years suggests that a solid foundation is being laid for Red Bull to continue to dominate Formula 1. The new engine and running parts divisions mark the way forward into the future of the Great Circus, with a car assembly process similar to that of a production line where third-party suppliers deliver the part at the precise time for assembly. The difference is that in this case, the suppliers are divisions of the team that work independently, although Horner is the brain that fits all the pieces of a victorious puzzle. It therefore does not seem risky to say that there have been champions in Verstappen and Red Bull for years.
