UCAM Murcia CF. Jorge Romero leads a team seeking redemption and regaining the lost category with a solid and experienced blockade
The Universidad Católica de Murcia Club de Fútbol is facing this new season with the aim of returning to the First RFEF. The university students failed to keep the category, along with Atlético Sanluqueño, Costa Brava and Betis Deportivo. Interestingly, UCAM Murcia CF is up against three of these four (Atlético Sanluqueño, Sevilla Atlético and Betis Deportivo) teams named in Group IV of the 2nd RFEF.
The task will not be easy. In fact, the club decided to completely change its sports field for this new and exciting challenge. Miguel Linares takes over sports management after three outstanding seasons at the helm of Linares Deportivo. Next to him is Antonio Cruz, who will fulfill the functions of technical secretary. Both have worked together at Linares Deportivo in recent years.
On the bench, coach Molo was at the forefront of this 2022/23 project from the start. The Almeria-born coach had managed Lleida Espiritu and Águilas FC in recent years. He was accompanied by Jorge Garcés, assistant coach. However, the shaky start to the championship has resulted in the manager’s resignation. It should not be forgotten that UCAM started with a defeat to Sevilla Atlético. They recovered quickly with a win over Xerez Deportivo (3-0). Then followed a defeat to Vélez and two consecutive draws against Juventud Torremolinos and Mancha Real.
Now coach Jorge Romero, who has come to train Alcorcón in the SmartBank League, is at the helm of UCAM. Javier Blancart steps in as second coach. They complete the shortlist in the technical field Eugenio Gavilá, physical trainer; Luis Miguel Quirant, goalkeeper coach; Juan Daniel Belmonte, re-adapted; Daniel Serrano, physical therapist; Javier Marhuenda, nutritionist; Joaquin Olmos, delegate; and Jesus Gregorio, kitman.
Looking at the squad, the UCAM Murcia Club de Fútbol will have a completely new team. In goal, veteran Pau Torres joins the project after passing Zamora CF, a team that plays in the First RFEF. The youth team Zorro, who makes the jump to the first team, becomes his collaborator under the three sticks.
The defense line is built with a strong player base that will provide hierarchy and seniority. Migue Marín (Linares Deportivo), Fran Lara (Linares Deportivo) and Diego Jiménez (Hércules CF) have extensive experience in this category, while David Luna (Tudelano), Javi Ramírez (Mar Menor), Palomeque (Real Valladolid) and Javi Pérez ( Águilas FC) will bring hunger, youth and ambition.
In midfield, Abenza will continue to defend the shirt of UCAM Murcia Club de Fútbol. He is the only player left from last season. On the other hand, Vicente Romero returns to the university team after two seasons with Talavera de la Reina. Sergio Cortes (San Fernando CF), Yasser (Lleida Esportiu) and Pedro Torres (Águilas FC) will complete the university’s midfield.
And on the attack, the team has the talents Alfredo (Teruel), Manu Ramírez (CD Calahorra) and Isra Cano (Betis Deportivo). Moreover, José Fran joined this project after a great campaign with Atlético Baleares, which was one step away from playing in the play-offs for promotion to the 2nd division.
In this line of attack, the Andalusian also has youth side Diego Iglesias and the very young Isra Salazar, who is on loan from Real Madrid this season and who won the UEFA Youth League in 2019-20.
The goals of the UCAM Murcia Club de Fútbol are divided between two men: Chuma and Rafa Chumbi. The first became top scorer for San Roque, in the Second RFEF, with 16 goals last season. And Chumbi also has the absolute confidence of the newly arrived coach, who knows his hunger for goals and his success in front of goal. The striker has shown his high level with Real Murcia and Lorca FC, where he was promoted to the 2nd division.
This is the new UCAM Murcia Football Club that will try to return to the First RFEF within Group IV of the 2nd RFEF, along with 14 Andalusian teams and three Murcian teams (Yeclano Deportivo, Mar Menor and FC Cartagena ‘B’).
