The Spanish Barnabas Zapata beat the Italian on Tuesday Lorenzo Sonego by doubles 6-4 in just over an hour and a half in the first round of the Open of Florence, Italy)on the hard court.
Zapata, number 74 in the world, started the match by breaking the first serve of the Italian, number 51 in the ATP ranking, who saved a set point before giving it to the Spaniard.
The second set started in exactly the same way, with Zapata breaking Sonego’s first serve, and scoring another break of serve later to take the victory, despite the Italian’s attempts, driven by his home crowd, to get into the match.
The 25-year-old Valencian tennis player will face the Italian in the round of 16 Lorenzo Musettithird favorite in the tournament and world number 28, who went directly to the round of 16.
In the rest of the day, Swedish Mikael Ymer (99) defeated Dutch Tim Van Rijthoven (116) by 6-1 and 6-2, Kazakh Alexander Bublik (43) defeated Chilean Cristian Garín (81) by 7-5 and 6-2, and German Oscar Otte (55) defeated Hungarian Marton Fucsovics (91) with difficulty 3-6, 6-4 and 6-2.
