Paula Badosa: “My great goal is to fit myself”

Date:

The Spanish Paula Badosaeighth in the WTA ranking, admitted to EFE on Monday that her priority is to have a good relationship with herself, play her tennis in the best way and one day become the best player in the world.

“My big goal is to be with myself. With Paula there are days I get along better and there are days I get along worse,” the Indian Wells Masters 1,000 champion last year revealed in an interview with EFE.

Badosa, 24, will start as the early favorite in the Masters 1,000 in Guadalajara, Mexico, which starts this Monday, where he will look to build on a good performance to enter the Masters tournament in Forth Worth, United States, from October 31 to November 7.

Paula has confirmed in recent months that she has the level to win Grand Slam titles and attacked the number one held by the Polish Iga Swiatek, but she failed in the decisive moments and is trying to strengthen her mind.

Identifying the possibility that the key to success starts with simply enjoying the game, without his spirit being disturbed by the results, the Catalan accepted that it was a good idea, as long as he accompanied it with hard training.

“That could be an alternative, but at work. When I manage to be happy outside the track, I perform better here”, he added.

The Spaniard had a good run at the Guadalajara tournament, where he debuted in 2019, when the tournament was category 125.

Last year she was a semifinalist in the women’s tournament in Mexican city and is one of the most recognized tennis players, because of the good tennis shown, her Hispanic origin and because the Mexicans recognized her.

I like Guadalajara, I had a lot of fun here and it might be one of my favorite tournaments: The fans have always supported me a lot, I feel at home and coming back is a pleasure for me”, he observed.

Badosa will play the Master as the first favourite; will debut in the second round where she will face the winner this Monday between Belarusian Victoria Azarenka, former world number one, and Chinese Shuai Zhang, racket 24 of the WTA.

The Catalan player has had a year of ups and downs. Referring to that, he said that this may be his period of greatest learning and he hopes to take the experiences to grow.

I must learn from this year’s experiences, it’s hard, it’s hard, I hope it will be before and after my career. I have to manage the pressure. I have room for improvement and I hope I can improve myself to be number one,” she said.

Badosa acknowledged that grief is difficult for a professional tennis player. In his case, he left home at the age of 14 to pursue a dream, and being away from his family hurt the most, but he lives his life trying to be good at what he loves most.

“Sadness is hard. Being away from family is a powerful experience, but I’ve learned to enjoy the moments”the end of the tennis player who this Monday dropped from fourth to eighth place in the ranking and hopes that Guadalajara will be fertile ground to start the path back to a position among the four best in the world.
