The new Circuit de Catalunya already has ‘The Plan’

Five million were invested in 2022, 17 million in 2023, five of them to improve energy efficiency and 9 million in 2024, all to make it a modern and self-sufficient facility.

the councilor Roger Torrent is in charge of explaining the Strategic Plan in promoting this environmental and economic sustainability: “The Circuit will continue to be a world benchmark in the field of competition, we guarantee this with the renewal of contracts with the Formula 1 and MotoGP world championships. until 2026. But at the same time, we also want to be the driving infrastructure for projects related to green mobility, innovation and recreation. to be promoted from a clear commitment to sustainability, public-private collaboration and joint work with the territory”, explained the president of the Circuit.

Currently, the Circuit is already a global benchmark for its commitment to sustainability and respect for its environment, but the goal is much more. Three major investment projects are planned in the installation of 18,480 square meters of photovoltaic panels at checkpoints and in buildings, including the roof of the Main Grandstand, the implementation of a pioneering storage system to ensure sufficient energy of Circuit and various investments in electric chargers.

Generate new revenue

The Plan also focuses on diversification to generate new revenue and gradually relies on public investment. In addition to the organization’s experience and capacity for holding mass events on 4,675 kilometers of track, the Circuit also has 25 hectares of green areas that make it possible to organize unique events related to the world of entertainment and healthy recreation all year round. .

Also, the Circuit will be a tool for the revitalization of industry and technological innovation in Catalonia, especially related to green mobility and the automotive industry, which faces the challenge of decarbonizing its production, a tool in line with the objective of the Government to rebuild Catalonia. .

Annual activities generate 326 million euros and generate a GDP of 181 million and a total of 2,670 full-time equivalent jobs per year. 68% of employment and 62% of GDP remained in Catalonia.

In the case of Catalonia, the Circuit is responsible for 0.05% of GDP and employment in the country, percentages that rise to 0.13 of GDP and 0.18% of employment in the case of Vallès Oriental. In addition, it generates a tax return for the administration of 49.3 million euros.

The change of curve 1

At the end of the 2022 sports season, the Circuit will start the project to change turn 1 to extend the escape route by almost 40% with the reconstruction of roads, walls and the installation of safety elements in 18 weeks.

The loophole for curve 1 will go from an area of ​​approximately 5,200 m2 to 7,200 m2, between agglomerate and gravel. The current gravel area of ​​3,100 m2 will add 5,100 m2 with these improvements, thus guaranteeing maximum safety both in racing and in any type of training or activity.

The Circuit will have to deal with other types of work and changes first because initially the trees will be cut in the affected area. The Circuit is committed to planting the resulting estimated value within the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya itself and in the area of ​​Can Cabanyes and the green area of ​​Can Tabola in Montmeló.
