Mario Cipollini, sentenced to three years in prison for mistreating his ex-wife

former Italian cyclist Mario Cipolliniwho is considered one of the best sprinters in history with 42 wins in the Giro and 12 in the Tour de France, was sentenced to three years in prison for mistreating and injuring his ex-husband.

As reflected by the Gazzetta dello Sport, the judgment of the first instance also established a compensation for the former runner of 80,000 euros for his ex-husband, Sabrina Landucciand 5,000 euros for his current partner, Silvio Giusti.

Cipollini, 2002 world champion, was sentenced in the court of Lucca to three years in prison, accused of mistreating, harming and threatening his ex-wife Sabrina Landucci and her current partner.

According to La Gazzetta, on June 22, prosecutor Letizia Cai requested 2 and a half years in prison for the ex-cyclist, 2 for the injuries to the ex-husband and 6 months for the injuries to Giusti.

The conflict began on January 9, 2017 with Landucci’s complaint. The indictment went into the details of the accusations: Cipollini allegedly committed “a series of acts that destroyed the physical and mental integrity of his ex-husband by punches, slaps, kicks, with injuries and death threats.”
