The American Cameron Young25, was named rookie of the year in the PGA Toursin a vote of his peers, after a season in which he achieved five second places, including Britishtournament of Grand Slam.
Young won the Arnold Palmer Award preceded by South Korean Tom Kim and the american Sahith Theegala after receiving 94% of the votes.
“Arnold Palmer is a giant in golf and we have a lot to thank him for for what we do today, which is the PGA Tour. Just to be associated with that in some way is great. I know I was voted by my peers, so it’s a great honor to be considered in that way,” Young said.
With his five second-place finishes, the American equaled the most runner-up finishes by any player in a season in the past 40 years, with Vijay Singh in 2003 the last to do so. Young also finished third at the RBC Heritage and the PGA Championship.
With $6.5 million in earnings, Young set a new record for a rookie in PGA Tour history, surpassing the previous limit of Xander Schauffele4.3 million in the 2016-17 season.
