Repsol and Honda renew their partnership until 2024, thus sealing 30 years. The Japanese brand and the oil company joined forces for the first time in 1995, and during these 28 years, the team established itself as a benchmark team in the motor world and, in particular, in the elite of motorcycling: the MotoGP World Championship.
The final campaigns were less successful for the teamalthough they served as a basis for further preparation in the future.
In this difficult context, Repsol HRC announced this Tuesday that they will renew their partnership for two more seasons, until December 31, 2024, when they will celebrate the 30th anniversary of their alliance. The goal from 2023 is clear: to be the best in MotoGP again.
The main challenge for the Repsol Honda team is to respond to the commitment of Dorna, the International Motorcycling Federation (FIM) and IRTA to make the championship a more sustainable sport, reducing the carbon footprint, by using renewable fuels in the MotoGP competition . Specifically, by 2024, 40% of fuel must be of non-fossil origin and, by 2027, 100%.
The Repsol Honda team in the highest category of world motorcycling has reached 183 victories and 15 World Championships for drivers, combining itself as a sporting and technological reference.
More than half of the premier class world titles won since 1995 have gone to the team’s showcase. In addition, the Repsol-Honda partnership has produced ten team championships since the award was created in 2002. It has also achieved a record 454 podium finishes in 500cc and MotoGP thanks to drivers like Mick Doohan, Álex Crivillé, Valentino Rossi, Nicky Hayden, Casey Stoner, Dani Pedrosa and Marc Márquez.
