Derry’s championship hopes affected with Ciaran McFaul’s exit from the plate

Date:

Kieran McFaul, who appeared in the McCain Cup match against Donegal in January, will not be part of the Derry Championship.

The prospect of Derry winning his first title in Ulster since 1998 came as a severe blow to the news that Ciaran McFaul would not feature in his next tournament.

The centerpiece of all action was the mainstay of Team Glenn, who won their first Derry SFC title last fall, with Malachi O’Rourke taking Kilko into overtime at the Ulster Series. Club in December.

However, McFaul was not in Derry’s starting lineup in Division Two against Cork and was a substitute against Claire and Rosecommon.

After a brilliant start, Galway’s Rory Gallagher’s men and second division champion Roscommon were sent off.

The Oak Leafs expect the winners of Saturday’s pre-round match between 2021 champions Tyrone and Fermanagh at Brewster Park, but Gallagher told Irish News that McFaul will not be on their squad.

“Kieran is no longer a member of our team,” Gallagher said.

Then he caught our attention.

“Kieran’s level of commitment has not been as good as it should have been since the start of the year and he says he has not been as satisfied as we expected.

“If he wants to reconsider it next year, we’ll definitely look into it, but he won’t be involved now.”
