The coach of Sheriff, the team that beat Real Madrid, resigned

the Croatian Stjepan Tomas, coach of Sheriff Tiraspol, resigned on Tuesday after suffering their first defeat in the Moldovan league last weekend (1-0 against Petrocub). “I think the players were thinking about the Manchester game. They weren’t focused. It was my mistake,” Tomas said, according to the club’s website. Tomas begins his stage in Sheriff on June 21, 2022.

The resignation was completed two days before which is the mediocre team from the breakaway republic of Transnistria play this Thursday against Manchester United at Old Trafford in a match corresponding to the Europa League.

In his statement, the Sheriff praised the Croatian work “create a team from scratch” with little time and qualified for the group stage of a European competition.

The Sheriff went down on Sunday for the lowest against Petrocub, second in the league, six points behind the Tiraspol team.

The Transnistrian team was unable to overcome the goal scored in extra time of the first half by Vladimir Ambros.

In the Moldovan league, which the team has won in 19 of the last 21 contested, the Sheriff is currently the chief, with 8 wins, three draws and one loss.

In Group E of the Europa League, they are third with three points, behind Real Sociedad, with 12, and United, with 9 points.

Last season, with Ukrainian Yuri Vernidub at the helm, Sheriff pulled off one of the biggest surprises in Champions League history by beating Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu (1-2).
