The Spanish Dani Caverzaschi, eleventh in the ITF rankings, will play this year, for the first time in his career, the Roland Garros tournament in a wheelchairheld in Paris between May 31 and June 4.
“It has been confirmed that I will be performing Roland Garros. It came at a cost, but my team and I paddled a lot, overcame difficult moments, but with passion and enthusiasm intact.. Joining the very small group of chair tennis players who qualified to play a Grand Slam has been my dream since I was a child, as well as a definite goal for several years. Hopefully this is the first of many, ”Caverzaschi said on social media.
So far this year, Dani Caverzaschi reached the semifinals in singles in the Can Uner (Turkey) and Bolton (England) tournaments and he won doubles, including the Martín de la Puente Can Uner and the Georgia Open (United States).
Last year in Tokyo Dani Caverzaschi became the first Spanish tennis player to reach the quarterfinals and win an individual diploma at the Paralympic Games. Later, to end 2021, as part of a team consisting of Martín de la Puente, Kike Siscar and Cisco García, he made history by winning silver in the World Cup, the Davis Cup of wheelchair tennis.
