If a revenge thriller at the end of the 10th century piques your interest, Robert Eggers’ new movie The Northman is for you.
The epic film tells the story of Prince Hamlet and how far he will go to seek justice for his murdered father, a Norse legend that Shakespeare used to inspire his play Hamlet.
Filmed at Belfast Harbor Studios and on location in 2020, The Northman was the first major project to be filmed during the pandemic.

Swedish actor Alexander Skarsg – rd plays the main role of the Avengers Prince Hamlet. Best known for her roles in TV series True Blood and Big Little Lies, her father, Stellan Skarsgდიrd, is also an actress.
Nicole Kidman as Queen Jordan
Famous actress Nicole Kidman plays Queen Gordon, Hamlet’s mother, who seeks revenge after the death of her father and husband. Skarsgდიrd and Kidman actually appeared as a married couple in Big Little Lies, before Nortman’s roles.

Anya Taylor-Joy plays Ophelia’s Northman equivalent, Ogla of the Birch Forest. The Queen’s Gambit actress has become one of the brightest young talents in Hollywood, most recently starring as Gina Gray in the drama Peaky Blinders.

51-year-old American actor and director Ethan Hawke plays King Orvandel War-Raven, Hamlet’s father. He was nominated for four Academy Awards and a Tony Award, and his breakthrough was featured in the Dead Poets Society.
