After two hours and 44 minutes, the Croatian Borna Coric omitted the greek Stefanos Tsitsipassecond favorite at the Vienna tournament, 4-6, 6-4 and 7-6 (4), and meets in the quarterfinals with the Pole Hubert Hurkacz.
Coric, number 27 in the ranking, gave a surprise against a Tsitsipas who squandered the advantage he had in the first set (6-4) and could not get away from the Croatian throughout the match.
In the second set, the Greek squandered a 2-0 lead and gave up his serve twice against the Croatian, bringing it back 6-4 and forcing a third set thanks to his aggressive return.
The tie of the third set was broken in the ‘tie-break’. Coric won it 7-4 and extended his personal winning streak against the Greek, who he had won 7-6 (0) and 6-2 in their last meeting, at the Cincinnati tournament.
In the quarterfinals, Cicinnati tournament champion Coric will meet Polish Huber Hurkacz, who won this Thursday in three sets against Finnish Emil Ruusuvuori 7-5, 4-6, 6-3.
