The ATP 250 Serbia Open tournament in Belgrade will be held in 2023 in the Bosnian city of Banjaluka as the Serbian capital prepares to meet the requirements of the 500 series, the second highest on the ATP circuit.
“That license remains our priority and we are among the main favorites to get it.“, declared Djordje Djokovic, director of the Serbia Open and brother of the current number seven in world tennis, Novak Djokovic.
The person in charge of the tournament explained that the temporary move is due to preparations to meet the necessary conditions to host the ATP 500reports public relations agency New Media Team.
According to Djokovic, the transfer has been agreed with the ATP, “that city was accepted as an option because it had hosted a ‘challenger’ for 20 years“, a lower circuit category.
He indicated that the city in northwestern Bosnia-Herzegovina has a tennis center with nine courts, of which three will have stands for the tournament, the largest with a capacity for 6,000 spectators.
Novak Djokovic plans to participate in that tournament.
