Alonso: “Verstappen’s titles are more important than Hamilton’s”

Date:

Fernando Alonso Y Max Verstappen they maintain great harmony on and off the track. Since the Dutchman became champion, the Spaniard has not stopped praising him, praising his work. Without going any further, in an interview granted to Via Telegraafhas compared the two World Cups of red bull including seven of Lewis Hamilton.

Max’s titles are more important than Hamilton’s. I have a lot of respect for Lewis but, it’s really different when you win seven world titles that you have to fight alone against your partner of equipment. In my opinion, a championship like this has less value than when you fight with other drivers with equal or better material,” defended Alonso.

Alonso has compared little to what Verstappen has experienced this season and his two years at the top of Renault. None of them have to fight with their teammates but they have rivalries with other brands: “So I think a championship has less value than when you have fewer titles but you have to fight with others drivers with the same or better material. In 2005 and 2006, I personally had a good start to the year and made a profit. Then others might have a better car, but I was able to manage that difference.”

Finally, the Spaniard admitted he wants to challenge Verstappen in 2023 during his time at Aston-Martin. “I’m lucky I was able to fight Sebastian Vettel, Lewis Hamilton and Michael Schumacherr in the past, but I never had that chance with Max. I hope it happens in the next years”, he declared. Many things have to change from one year to the next and this in Formula 1 is not easy. Time will tell.
