Vasily Lomachenko returned from military service in Ukraine and defeated Jamaine Ortiz by unanimous decision this Saturday night to start your search again and get another shot at the lightweight titles. Lomachenko got stronger as the fight went on after a slow start that may have been due to ring rust.
Lomachenko returned to his country after Russia invaded it in February. and joined a territorial defense battalion, patrolling the streets to enforce the curfew. Now he’s back and waiting for a shot at Devin Haney, the undisputed lightweight champion who sits ringside and joins him after the fight.
Lomachenko (17-2) won with scores of 117-111, 116-112 and 115-113.
Lomachenko already had swelling around his right eye in the second round, when he tried to get into an exchange against a longer-armed opponent. However, the two-time Olympic gold medalist finally found his footing.
