1,700 athletes take part in a test dominated by Juan Manuel García, in the men’s category, and Mercedes Velasco, in the women’s category
The 10K Puerto de Cartagena returned without restrictions in 2022 due to the pandemic and this seventh edition was a success. 1,700 runners competed in the different categories that made up the test, from sub-8 to adult category, with a specific modality for people with functional diversity.
The race, which last year hosted the 10-kilometer road regional championship and which this season once again took on a decidedly solidarity character, started and arrived at Paseo Alfonso XII, passing through the cruise terminal, the Curra lighthouse and the climb to the San Leandro battery.
In the absolute category, Juan Ramón García Gen, of the Mandarache Cartagena Athletics Club, won with a time of 32:14. Repeat the win, as he already won in 2019. Second placed was Manuel Marchena (32:26) and third was Álvaro Franco, from Mobel (33:14).
As for the women, Mercedes Velasco, from CD Runtritón Cartagena, crossed the finish line in 38 minutes 18 seconds. She was followed by Isabel Pelegrín (18:31) and third was Lola Luján (41:35).
In the minor categories, Carlos Serna and Alba Parra (under 8), David Jiménez and Ainhoa Salas (under 10), Valeria Lafuente and Pascual Martínez (under 12), Aarón Laencina and María García (under 14) and Víctor Requena and Gema won Guasp (promo 4.5 kilometers). Valeria Lafuente was also the only girl to dominate her category over the male entry.
