Serious accident Saturday evening in the Vienna district of Penzing: a 16-year-old exploded in his hand with a firecracker and two fingers of the youngster had to be partially amputated in hospital. Several other young people were arrested by the police in Floridsdorf: they had banned fireworks with them, among other things.
The 16-year-old boy received emergency medical care around 9:40 p.m. before the partial amputation at the hospital became necessary, spokeswoman for the Vienna professional rescue service, Corina Had, reported.
Caught in the train from the Czech Republic
Four other boys had previously taken illegal fireworks in Floridsdorf, police spokesman Markus Dittrich said. They were checked on a train from the Czech Republic around 4:15 PM. In the bags and backpacks of the teenagers, a total of 86 pieces of category F2 fireworks and 100 pieces of category F3 fireworks were seized.
Stun gun, brass knuckles
13 to 17 year olds are not allowed to possess fireworks. The boys also found a banned brass knuckle, a stun gun and two pepper sprays. All four juveniles were reported.
With New Year’s Eve approaching, priority checks are already being carried out by the watch service.
