In North Rhine-Westphalia, three young people between the ages of 14 and 15 allegedly murdered a homeless man. A passerby discovered the dead man on Thursday morning in a meadow in Horn-Bad Meinberg. The first investigation is based on a chance meeting between victim and perpetrator.
A total of three young people were arrested, including two 15-year-olds and a 14-year-old. They are accused of killing a homeless man in the Lippe neighborhood and filming the crime. Prosecutors say the two older teens have so far admitted to violence against the homeless man. The identity of the victim, on whom an autopsy was to take place on Friday, has now been clarified, according to the Public Prosecution Service in Detmold.
Recordings led investigators to the trail
The youths filmed the attack and spread the word. Through these recordings, the researchers were able to track down the small group. The suspects will be brought to court on Friday.

More and more young offenders
In recent years and months, crimes committed by children and young people have repeatedly caused horror in Germany. According to the North Rhine-Westphalia State Police, 20,948 children and young people under the age of 14 were arrested as suspects last year. That is an increase of 41.1 percent. There were 44,871 suspects among young people under the age of 18, an increase of 24 percent.
Some particularly gruesome cases ended up in the media. In March 2023, two girls aged 12 and 13 murdered a classmate near Siegen. Twelve-year-old Luise was the victim of a crime in a forest near Freudenberg on her way home. The girls confessed to the crime.
Murders among peers
In Wunsiedel, Bavaria, a ten-year-old girl was allegedly murdered by an eleven-year-old child in a children’s home in early April. In Lohr am Main in Lower Franconia in Bavaria, a 14-year-old allegedly shot a classmate of the same age on the school grounds in September.
In January, a 15-year-old pushed a 78-year-old off her bike in Ellwangen in Baden-Württemberg. The woman died from her injuries. The motive was unclear, neither of them knew each other. A few days earlier, the teenager allegedly knocked over a wheelchair user after an argument.
