Auger is currently an unstoppable rocket, riding the best winning streak of his career, 13 in a row after his victories in florence, Antwerp Y basel. In the semifinals he won for the third time in three matches Carlos Alcaraz (6-3, 6-2), the current No. 1, showing all of his powerful arsenal.

With his victory over Rune, 19 years old and 25th in the ranking, the Canadian took an almost certain giant step to enter the Nitto ATP Finals Turin (November 13-20), with the final two spots to be decided in the near future Masters 1,000 of Paris-Bercy.

Carlos Alcaraz, Rafa Nadal, Casper Ruud, Daniil Medvedev, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Novak Djokovic have already qualified for the ‘masters’ tournament, an appointment Auger is already crossing his fingers against other suitors such as Andrey Rublev, Taylor Fritz and Hubert Hurkacz.

Amazingly, the Canadian had lost his first eight ATP finals, but in February he broke the curse by defeating Tsitsipas in Rotterdam. The following week he fell again in the final of Marseillesagainst Rublev, but Florence, Antwerp and Basel discovered an unstoppable Auger with his serve and the speed of his shots.

The American is the third tennis player of 2022 capable of lifting a title without giving up his serve once, 51 service turns in his case, after the Australian Nick Kyrgios (64 in Washington) and the American Taylor Fritz (51 in Eastbourne).

That security on serve allowed him to hit 34 winners (11 aces) and commit just nine unforced errors. Rune, who has produced 21 ‘winners’ and six defeats, also came out of Basel very strongly, again showing signs of his great potential.

Auger-Aliassime topped the list of winners Roger Federerone of his idols and 10-time champion in his hometown including the previous three (2017, 2018, 2019) before the coronavirus pandemic forced the cancellation of the 2020 and 2021 editions. Interestingly, Auger was born on the same day as Federer, on August 8.
