Alonso, frank about Alpine: “We’re a bit stupid”

Date:

History repeated itself. Another one this season. The nth. Another reliability failure of his car left Fernando Alonso without a good handful of points he is more than assured Mexico. The Spaniard got out of his car furious, making several angry gestures at his car after a run that ran out of prize money. This time, he misfired as he comfortably ran in the 7th after making the difference with his hands. The Spaniard gained two positions at the start, from 9th to 7th, setting a better pace than his teammate Or with, had a great first stint, with a higher speed than Leclerc’s Ferrari, managed to extend his first stint to 40 laps. The easiest thing remained for him, to manage his advantage in 7th position. But his engine failed and he ended up ditching.

The Asturian came from many reliability problems with his car while he saw that his teammate’s Alpine had fewer problems. He repeated on numerous occasions that he had lost “50 or 60 points” in the early part of the course due to mechanical failures and in this latter part of the course, his car still did not want him to finish his job. With this, Fernando again emphasized the difference in mechanical problems between the two cars of the same team, repeating that “once, only car 14, as usual”, especially, for happening on a date where “I was 30 seconds ahead of my partner and the McLarens”.

“In the middle of the race more or less, I got comfortable. Both at Asutin and here I think I’m having one of the best races of the year. I was 30 seconds ahead of my teammate (Esteban Ocon) and the McLarens. And in the end I lost a cylinder. I was on 5 cylinders for 20 laps, making a bit of a fool of myself, and finally it broke, which was the best thing.”said Fernando Alonso, angry and disappointed with what happened in Mexico.

“I wanted to stop for a long time, but the team wanted to see if there was a ‘Safety Car’ or something and by a miracle we stayed in the points. So… only again in car 14, as usual, and the truth is that I am very disappointed “he added, noting that like in Austin, in Mexico he is again doing one of his best race courses.

“It went well until the engine stopped again. I am happy with the personal performance, how the race started, better than yesterday, with a good speed now, but again the car, only 14, that stopped…”, he repeated, leaving the last sentence to speak for itself: “Well, there’s only two left.” He has just two races left at Alpine. He hopes to start his new phase in F1 at Aston Martin soon and will leave a lot of problems behind.
