It is the tonic of the whole season. Fernando Alonso shines on the track, but his car deprives him of adding the points he deserves. It happened again at the Mexican F1 GP. No wonder the Spaniard complained on the radio: “Unbelievable. What a season! What a season!”. Alonso gained two positions at the start, from 9th to 7th, with another great start. He printed very good speed with the medium tire, extending his first stint well with a total of 40 laps.

He had 7th place in hand, as the best of ‘mortals’ after the 6 best cars. But again, his Alpine failed again. He began to lose speed and was overtaken by Ricciardo and Ocon, with Fernando unable to stop him. It was the 9th and he couldn’t hide his disappointment. I know how it ends. He would end up retiring on lap 65, with 6 laps to go. Some good points have eluded him again, others after a campaign full of reliability failures in his Alpine, more so than Esteban’s.
Fernando Alonso got out of the car furious, made angry gestures and finally leaned his head against the barriers, showing sadness and regret. I was devastated. Another great weekend where he gave his all, leaving him without a prize. And there are so many.
