The sixth edition of the project Soccer for Equality ending with the great success of the participation after a weekend full of sport, values and emotions. The sponsors of this edition: Vicente Engonga, Irene Olives and young April Sampol, they shared their sporting experience in Sóller with dozens of men and women.
the tireless Tatiana Ferrer president of Football for Equality, did it again. The sixth edition of the main program of the entity it represents has left the best taste in the mouth both at the sporting and social levels. Six years of fighting for gender equality and equal opportunities that have already benefited more than 11,000 people both in the Balearic Islands and in other autonomous communities and even around the world. The program of this edition was developed without incidents and sets a record of participation in all its initiatives; also becoming a turning point for new projects announced at the presentation gala.
The anniversary cocktail, held in spectacular Jumeirah Port Soller Hotel & Spa, opened the program that brings together the greatest political, social, economic and sports exponents of the current scene; who shared their reflections on equality during the dynamic prepared by the journalist, presenter of the event, Alba Gonzalez.
All the administrations present: Govern de les Illes Balears, Consell de Mallorca and Institut Balear de la Dona showed their support for the entity and their political commitment to equality; a fact also highlighted by the mayor of Sóller, Carlos Simarro, excited to return the municipality to the axis of Balearic solidarity. The words of godfathers and godmothers Vicente Engonga, Irene Olives and Abril Sampol drew applause from the audience and showed once again that soccer is more than a sport; words also used by the founder of the entity, Taty Ferrer, when thanking him for his participation in the event and offering some emotional words to MIguel Bestard, former president of the Balearic Football Federation. Also, a great revelation put an end to the night when the ambassador of Fútbol Para la Igualdad, the player Emilio Nsue, appeared to surprise Miguel Bestard as well. Both join in a loving embrace as they remember Emilio’s difficult beginnings; who started playing football as a child thanks to the social and economic support of Miguel Bestard and Antonio Barea, FFIB directors at the time.
The birth of a Foundation
“I know what it’s like to receive an opportunity and I want to give back to the world what it gave me,” he explained. Emilio Nsue obviously excited. “I want to help other boys and girls who are struggling and I decided to do it through the Emilio Nsue Foundation”, he exclusively told the attendees. The foundation aims to promote egalitarian values in football and offer opportunities to men and women who are at risk of social exclusion.
After the emotional hangover of the emotional gala, more than fifty children focused on Ca’n Maiol Soccer Field to celebrate a day of workshops, sports and interesting conversations with the godfathers and godmothers, with whom they were able to exchange beautiful moments. The workshops, also adapted for youth with functional differences, continued until after twelve in the morning, when the historian Victor Uwagba, his “both different” interactive percussion activity began. After him, the participants had a snack thanks to the donation from Agromart and received attendance medals from the councilors Mar Castanyer and Miguel Angel Nadal, the deputy mayor Carles Darder, the director of Palma Futsal, Maria Mayans and the director of Agromart. In the afternoon, a good women’s futsal match was held between the team made up of volunteers from Fútbol Para la Igualdad and a combination of CF Sóller and Sóller Futsal teams. Attendees participated in the solidarity meeting by donating a kilo of staple food.
The next day, again at the solleric field, the mixed football exhibition was held starring the Balearic juvenile teams. Pep Sansó, president of the Balearic Football Federation, Carles Darder, deputy mayor of Sóller City Council and the sponsors of Football for Equality 2022, Irene Olives and Abril Sampol, presented the participation medals. The association once again demonstrated, for the sixth year in a row and without doubt, that every effort brings good results.
