Alcaraz and Nadal, double premiere in Paris-Bercy

Date:

Carlos Alcaraz Y Rafael Nadal will shine this Wednesday on the day of Paris Bercy Masters 1,000 in the double premiere of the first two rackets in the world.

The two Spanish tennis players are back in action with a pulse for No. 1 final of the year on the horizon, with the final chapter coming to Nitto ATP Finals Turin (November 13-20). However, Alcaraz will secure the throne this week if he wins in Paris and Nadal misses the semi-finals. Rafa will return to No. 1 if he lifts the trophy and Carlos doesn’t reach the quarterfinals.

However, the Balearic reiterated that the 36-year-old’s motivations were different. “I am no longer fighting for No. 1, I just fight to be competitive in all the tournaments I play. I’ve been fighting to be No. 1 and I have reached it,” said Nadal in his press conference.

Alcaraz will debut against Yoshihito Nishioka, 27 years old and world number 38, on the third turn of the central court, around 3:00 pm (Movistar + Sports). The Murcian has never played against the Japanese.

Nadal will debut against tommy paul (31st) before 7:30 pm with a victory in the only previous confrontation with the American, this year in the quarterfinals of Acapulco (6-0, 7-6).

Paul is a very dangerous hard court tennis player, he has already beaten Alcaraz in Canadian Masters 1,000 and lost on Tuesday Robert Baptist for the double 6-4. It’s a complicated debut for Rafa, who will be playing in his first tournament after becoming a father.

“It’s a different way than usual. It’s always hard to leave home. Now you leave your child at home, you don’t see him and you miss him. All the changes in this life are hard and you have to adapt to the it, but with technology we can make video calls and it always helps, I can see the little one as many times as I want, something that other generations can’t do,” explained Rafa.

Nadal is re-entering the competition after losing in the round of 16 US Open against Tiafoe and fire to Federer playing doubles with him at Rod Laver Cup. “Obviously, Paris brings me good memories, but this tournament didn’t give me many positive things,” said Rafa, champion 14 times in Roland Garrosbut never in internal contest.

instead, Novak Djokovic moving like a fish in water in Paris-Bercy, where he has six titles (2009, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2019, 2021) and made an attack on the seventh beating. Maxime Cressy (7-6, 6-4), his 10th straight victory after his previous titles in Astana Y Tel Aviv. The former No. 1, who committed only three unforced errors, spoke of the new generation.

“Alcaraz wants to dominate the game for years to come. It’s good that there are new faces, but I won’t give up. I’ll make sure to kick them as far as I can! Maybe they’ll kick my ass sometimes, but hopefully less this than I kick them,” Djokovic told Eurosport.
