Borussia Moenchengladbach ended a two-game losing streak in the German Bundesliga by beating Stuttgart 3-1 on Friday, enjoying some clear chances in the second half to achieve a better result.
A lack of effectiveness against the opposition goal ended up dooming Michael Wimmer’s men a defeat that leaves Stuttgart on the brink of relegation.
Higher up the table, in seventh position, is Borussia Mönchengladach, who looked destined for a quiet match after being put in 25 minutes with a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Jonas Hofmann and Frenchman Marcus Thuram.
If anyone shined in the latter part of the match, it was the French midfielder Alassane Plea, who showed his skill as a passer with a wonderful assist off foot in the game which made it 2-0.
However, just when everything seemed to be on track for the locals, the goal from Stuttgart came, by Portuguese Tiago Tomas, who signed to make it 2-1 after 35 minutes, after a game in which the Portuguese striker cleared his pair inside the area with an electric twist.
That goal completely changed the landscape of the match in the second half, where the visitors had several chances to equalize, but the lack of success of the Stuttgart strikers allowed Mönchengladbach not only to save the situation, but to further extend their lead (3-1) with a goal from Patrick Hermann during the extension.
