The letter went on to say that “FIFA would like to assure you that everything is prepared in Qatar to ensure that all participating countries have the best chance of achieving success at the ultimate stage of football. The eight state- of-the-art stadium, where the 64 matches of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 will provide the perfect platform for the world’s biggest sporting event.”

Let football be the center of the show

But from there he showed his concern about the existing political tension: “So, please, let’s focus now on football. We know that football does not live in a vacuum and we are both aware that there are many challenges and difficulty of political character around the world. But please, don’t let football get dragged into every ideological or political battle out there.”

At FIFA – the letter continues – “we try to respect all opinions and beliefs, without giving moral lessons to others or to the world. One of the great strengths of the world is, in fact, its own diversity, and if inclusion means Anything, It means respecting that diversity. No person, culture or country is better than another. So remind everyone to let football be the center of stage.”

“Let’s not forget that many eyes will certainly be on the behavior of the Qatari government and the Muslim religious practices in the country,” he concluded.
