On December 31, thousands of runners and runners will take part in the last race of the season in Barcelona, the famous Cursa dels Nassos, which this year celebrates its 24th edition and adopts a very fast 10 kilometer route (a flat route on which vocational long-distance runners tend to pulverize their personal brands).
As with previous courses, there will also be an international 5-kilometer race. In 2021, the current world record was established in the female and male category, Ejgayehu Taye (14:19) and Berihu Aregawi (12:49).
50 days before its celebration, the Cursa dels Nassos confirmed the participation of one of the greatest references in the world of athletics: the Norwegian Jakob Ingebrigtsen. At just 22 years old, the 1,500m Olympic and world 5,000m champion (and record holder) is considered one of the greatest runners of all time. In Barcelona he wants to extend his legacy by attacking the European top (which is also known as the world) of 5 km (the official designation when the 5000 meters are contested on the road, on asphalt, and not on tartan of an athletics track. ).
The participation of Jakob (8 times European champion between 1500, 3000, 5000 and cross) in the Cursa dels Nassos will be his debut in a competition in Spain and also in the 5 km modality. A good reference about his possibilities: he holds the European record of 5000 meters with 12:48.45. The youngest of the mythical Nordic saga will not be alone on the streets of Barcelona. He is accompanied by his two brothers, Filip and Henrik, both 1500m continental champions. Henrik’s (the oldest of the three) best time in the 5000m was 13:15.38; Filip beat him by a few seconds, 13:11.75.
The Councilor for Sports of the Barcelona City Council, David Escudé, expressed the hope that this participation will be joined by the city: “We want the Cursa dels Nassos 2022 to once again break records and become a benchmark , both at the level of popular races. 10km race as well as the international 5km road race. With the participation of the Norwegian Jakob Ingebrigtsen, new expectations have been opened and, this year, as in the past, we hope to experience of a historic edition. We are sure that the citizens of Barcelona will close 2022 with a new top-level international sporting event”.
