A Norwegian athlete died in the Malaga Half Marathon

A 58-year-old Norwegian runner died this Sunday after reaching the finish line of the thirtieth edition of the TotalEnergies Malaga Half Marathonwhen the health workers who attended him were powerless to save his life.

The athlete, whose identity has not been released, was treated by doctors from two Red Cross mobile ICUs which was part of the device for this sporting event, which unsuccessfully performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) maneuvers on him, according to the Malaga City Council.

The race, organized by Motorpres Ibérica and Málaga Sports and sponsored by the City Council, through Málaga Deporte y Eventos, It has a self-protection plan that goes beyond what is required of this type of evidence, the consistory said in a statement.

This plan includes an advanced health post at the finish line, 8 ICUs, 4 advanced life support and 4 basic life support, as well as 2 4×4 support vehicles, with the participation of 54 health workers: 9 doctor, 10 nurses and 14 people first aid managers, 20 emergency technicians and a coordinator.

The City Council of Malaga has activated the psychosocial group of the Civil Protection so that both it and the Parcemasa Guidance and Psychological Support Group can help the relatives of the deceased.

During the race, the ambulance had to transfer another participant at the Virgen de la Victoria University Clinical Hospital in the capital of Malaga.
