Spain and Mexico will meet in the classification for the next edition of Billie Jean King Cup tennis, according to the draw held this Sunday in Glasgow before the final between Switzerland and Australia.
The nine qualifying heats will be played on Friday 14th and Saturday 15th April 2023. Each heat will consist of two singles matches on the first day and two singles matches followed by a doubles on the second day.
This will be the clay court tour, the surface that will be chosen by the Spanish team as host. Mexico does not have any top-100, the most outstanding individual player is fernanda contreras, 25 years and 160th. Although he did not participate in the 4-0 win over Serbia, that allowed them to buy into the hype. Renata Zarazua, Marcela Zacarías and Giuliana Olmosthe doubles player who has established himself among the elite through the modality’s top-10.
As this year’s finalists, Switzerland and Australia they automatically qualified for the 2023 Finals. The host nation of the 2023 Finals (to be announced in due course) will receive the 12th seed in the event. If the host team has already qualified, a wild card will be awarded to a team that has not yet qualified.
