Teuter Zoll Dispute – US and China are looking for a solution in Switzerland

Date:

The world looks exiled in Geneva – because there will be conversations this weekend for the regulation of trade disputes between Washington and Beijing. Diligence must be continued on Sunday.

The enormous rates between the two largest economies in the world have sustainable consequences for world trade – they threaten to influence global economic growth. A few weeks after the escalation in customs duties between the US and China, the first conversations at ministerial level for setting up the tensions started in Geneva. These lead the American Minister of Finance Scott Bessent and the Chinese Vice Prime Minister He Lifeng. The American trade representative Jamieson Greer was also in the city.

There were two interview rounds on Saturday, as announced from delegate circles. However, both parties fall under the content. A sequel is planned for Sunday, even if some negotiators have already left the negotiation location. As a result of high -ranking representatives of China, the American Minister of Finance Scott Bessent and the American commercial officer Jamieson Geer should speak.

In Geneva there is also the World Trade Organization (WTO), in which various countries have announced complaints at the American rates, including the European Union. They claim that the allowances violate the WTO rules. Should the world economy crash in two rival blocks, a decrease in global real gross domestic product by seven percent in the long term, the WTO warned. Above all, this would have devastating consequences for development and emerging countries.

Trump accuses China of unfair commercial practices
US President Donald Trump accuses China of unfair commercial practices and, after taking office, has ruined the rates for Chinese goods to 145 percent. China responded to American goods with counter-tariffs of 125 percent. Until now, both countries have tried to give the impression that they are on the longer lever and do not have to take the first step to the other person.

Trump said several times that China had asked for negotiations. The Chinese government, on the other hand, emphasized that Washington had approached Beijing to start discussions. On Friday, the American president brought the American rate back to 80 percent on his own social media channel.

China had reported an export increase of 8.1 percent on Friday for April, especially thanks to stronger stores with countries in Southeast Asia. From January to April, trade in the Southeast Asian Community (ASEAN) increased by 9.2 percent on the basis of Yen, while he fell by 2.1 percent with the United States.

An approach is in the mutual interest, Bessent said in a television interview in advance. An agreement is not to be expected in Geneva, rather a concept of topics that should be discussed. China emphasized that people could only negotiate at the eye level. The United States should correct his mistakes.
