Former Olympic boxer Buddy Barnes said he would not comment on a video showing him near a fight scene in Belfast on Saturday night.
Mr Barnes was appointed as a member of the Northern Ireland Watchdog last month for a three-year term.
PBNI said it was aware of the video and because it was the subject of a police investigation, “we have no further comment.”
Barnes told Belfast Live that he spoke to a lawyer, but because the matter was under police oversight, he declined to comment.
The said video was posted on social media and appears to have shown several people involved in an argument in the building before it spread to the street.
A 33-year-old man who was arrested after the incident on charges of assault and possession of a first-degree suspect property has been released on bail.
The double Olympic medal was one of 13 new designations to the PBNI.
Speaking at the time of appointment, then-Justice Minister Naomi Long said: “In addition to playing a key role in reducing crime and preventing criminalization, under the effective supervision of people who have been abused, the PBNI pursues a number of justice priorities.
“This includes addressing issues of domestic violence, sexual offenses and violence and implementing justice initiatives to solve problems.”
Mr Barnes is currently the Club Development Officer at Ulster Boxing within the Irish Boxing Association, where he addresses a number of issues related to the ability to raise funds for clubs ranging from management.
He is also a member of the Sports Advisory Committees for the Commonwealth Games of Northern Ireland and the Irish Olympic Team.
The main activities of the Northern Ireland Monitoring Board include providing information to the courts through conviction records; supervision of criminals under public administration; and providing social protection services in prisons.
The council also funds community initiatives to support legal oversight of perpetrators in the community.
The chairman’s salary is £33,010 a year, while that of a board member is £5,050 a year.
There is no indication that Mr. Barnes was in any way connected to the dispute.
