Duplantis and Kipchoge, among the finalists for the best world athlete of 2022

The Swedish pole vaulter Armand Duplantisauthor of three world records this season, and the Kenyan Eliud Kipchogeto strike at berlin their marathon world record, was among the five finalists chosen by World Athletics for the World Athlete of the Year trophy.

With them they compete for the honor of the obstacle Moroccan Soufiane El BakkaliThe Norwegian middle distance runner Jakob Ingebrigtsen and the American sprinter Noah Lylesthey are all world champions this year Eugene (Oregon, USA).

The candidates were selected, first ten by a panel of experts drawn from six continental fields of athletics to compete for the award in a popular internet poll, and now the five finalists for World Athletics.

The five nominees represent five countries from three area associations and their performance at outdoor World Cups in Eugene (Oregon, USA) and those with an internal track of Belgradeas well as a one-day athletic meet

The five finalist athletes, announced this Monday, are Venezuelan Yulimar Rojas (triple jump), the Peruvian Kimberly Garcia (20 and 35 km walk), the Nigerian tobi amusan (100 m hurdles), the American Sydney McLaughlin (400 m hurdles) and the Jamaican sprinter Shelly Ann Fraser Pryce.

The winners, male and female, will be announced by World Athletics at the beginning of December.

The five male finalists are, in alphabetical order:

Armand Duplantis (Sweden). World (outdoor and indoor), European and Diamond League pole vault champion. He broke his world record three times with jumps of 6.19 and 6.20 (indoors) and 6.21 (outdoors).

Soufiane El Bakkali (Morocco). World Champion and Diamond League 3,000 m steeplechase. Unbeaten in 2022 and best world mark of the year with 7:58.28.

Jakob Ingebrigtsen (Norway). World champion in the 5,000 and runner-up in the 1,500. European Champion of 1,500 and 5,000. Diamond League Champion of the 1,500 with the best world mark of the year (3:29.02)

Eliud Kipchoge (Kenya). Berlin marathon winner with a new world record (2h01:09). Won the Tokyo marathon.

Noah Lyles (USA). World and Diamond League 200m champion. Best world mark of the year with 19.31, third all time.
