Àlex Rins experienced a complete MotoGP roller coaster in 2022. He became world championship co-leader tied on points with Fabio Quartararo after the appointment in Portimao and just two weeks later, when he negotiated his Suzuki renewal, the blow came from the surprise announcement of the -withdrawal of the manufacturer from Hamamatsu from the effective MotoGP World Championship. at the end of the 2022 campaign. Results in the team were weighed down by that announcement, but in a fairy tale ending Alex secured two of the last three appointments of 2022. Two days later he made his Cheste debut as an LCR Honda pilot, a real challenge for the Barcelonan. In this interview with Estrella Galicia 0.0, his personal sponsor, he summarizes a year of growth in all aspects.
During the 2022 season, it was announced by surprise that Team Suzuki would not continue with the MotoGP project. How did you experience that moment? Did this situation shape how you handled the rest of the season?
Of course it was difficult when they heard the news. After this news we followed some races with bad results, mixed with bad luck, why bad luck? Because I was involved in crashes on several occasions with other riders, which threw me. In one they broke my hand and then it was like a mountain of bad things. But in the end, without giving up, we were able to come back and make the end of the season that we did.
After the exciting success you achieved in Australia, the illusion is palpable in the atmosphere. Then came the victory in Valencia, the last race of the season and also for the Suzuki team itself. Is this a dream ending?
The truth is if. The end of the season we managed, taking two victories in the last three races, was amazing after looking for good positions all year. I deserved it and the team deserved it, so I think we had a good season finale.
The aforementioned success that you achieved for Suzuki in the brand farewell caused a great impact in the media. How do you want to continue writing your story and how do you want your pilot character to be remembered?
Well, I would say that I want to be remembered at Suzuki as a great rider, a rider who built a bike and built a winning bike. And what do I wish for next year? Well, I want to continue to grow as a pilot and as a person. We have a very good project on our hands that I want to expand, to have a competitive and winning bike again, so these are the goals.
At the end of this season, you did the “No lowering your arms” philosophy better than anyone else. What would you say to those who, because of difficulties in life or at work, may have given up?
Don’t let them down! That they fight for their dreams and they keep trying because, no matter how bad things are, there’s much better.”
What Álex Rins will we see in the 2023 season?
A better version of Álex than last year.
Next year will bring a new project for you. What sporting goals have you set for yourself and what do you think will be asked of you in that first season with another manufacturer?
Well, goals and objectives kind of go together. Honestly, it’s hard to set a goal or goal right now, so we’ll see what the future holds.
