Pecco Bagnaia, more and more a prophet in his land

The Italian Francesco Bagnaiarecently declared MotoGP world champion, declared this Wednesday, in a meeting with the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella, that in Valencia, the last race of the season in which he won the title, he fulfilled his dream .

“I thank the president, it is a real personal and professional honor for us. The drivers’ title makes us proud and winning it as an Italian and with an Italian motorcycle makes us even more proud”, added ‘Pecco’.

For his part, Mattarella thanked him for his victory and congratulated him on taking the vacancy for the Italian champion left by Valentino Rossi in 2009.

“It is a pleasure to receive ‘Pecco Bagnaia’ here with Ducati to thank him for this victory and how important it is for our country,” he commented.

“I think Valentino Rossi is happy to continue his success story. Congratulations to Bagnaia and everyone. Ducati is an extraordinary team, it is important to have an Italian champion on an Italian bike after 50 years. Congratulations and thank you for what it represents for image of our country,” he said.

The meeting was also attended by a delegation composed of Ducati managers and technicians, including Claudio Domenicali, executive director of Ducati, as well as Giovanni Malagò, president of the Italian Olympic Committee; Giovanni Copioli, President of the Italian Motorcycling Federation; and Andrea Abodi, Minister of Sports and Youth.

This Monday, Bagnaia was awarded by the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI) the ‘Collare d’Oro’, one of the highest sporting distinctions in his country. ‘Pecco’ admits that he is enthusiastic about this award: “Receiving the Collare d’Oro for sporting merit for the second time is a great honor, and as MotoGP World Champion, it is something that excites even more mine. As an Italian, I can only present this award with great pride and appreciation for the extraordinary success we have all achieved. I thank CONI and President Malagò for their trust”.
