Juan Manuel Correa returns to Formula 2 this weekend, at the Abu Dhabi GP, the last event of the silver class of this course. The Ecuadorian-American driver will live a very special and emotional weekend, because he will return to a category that he has not set foot in since August 31, 2019, in the middle of the F2 race in Spa (Belgium), he collided headed to the car of his friend Anthoine Hubert, who passed away an hour later.
In the said accident, Correa suffered open fractures in both legs and had to begin a very difficult and slow rehabilitation process after undergoing surgery more than 20 times. He returned more than 600 days after the accident, to compete in Formula 3 with the ART Gran Prix team, a team where he showed tremendous progress in 2022. In his first year, he was 21st and in 2022 he rose to 13th FIA F3 place, even managing to return to the podium at Zandvoort. Now, he will take another step to return to a Formula 2 with the same Art Gran Prix team.
