Wimbledon announced in an official statement that the Steering Committee of The Championships, the Grand Slam grass tournament, made a historic decision by introducing a variant to the hitherto strict all-white uniform rule for players of tennis.
This is associated with women’s competitions, which allow women to wear shorts or moderately dark colored underwear if they wish.
“The Committee made the decision to update the rule after discussions with WTA (governing the women’s professional circuit), clothing manufacturers and medical teams on how to best support women and girls competing,” the note said.
“We hope this rule adjustment will help players focus solely on their performance by alleviating this potential source of anxiety.” Sally Boltonchief executive of the All England Club.
The request of tennis players refers to the discomfort of wearing white during menstruation. Many tennis players, past and present stars, have advocated this change to feel more confident in a darker color than pure white.
