The Dane, now at Manchester United, recalled the collapse he suffered against Finland in the Eurocup, a moment that paralyzed the football world and led to his departure from Inter Milan and a rebuilding of his career that started at brentford.

“For me personally, being part of this team is always positive. I hope I can help as much as possible, in whatever way,” he said.

Denmark will make their World Cup debut next Tuesday against Tunisia, before facing group favourites, France.

“I know we won France before, but in these tournaments France is a different team compared to the rest of the year. We know what we have to do and we really want to,” he said.

“Our team has always been strong. I believe in these guys and I think the confidence of the group has grown since I had that incident,” he stressed.
