Christian Eriksenmidfielder of Denmarkassured that being in a World Cup is something “very special”, but that since he suffered from heart attack he values life and his family more and others are “secondary”.
Eriksen return to an international tournament a year and a half after the heart problem he suffered at Euro 2021 and he threatened to take him out of football.
“It is very special for me to be able to play in this World Cup. It’s something I’ve done, but I’m very happy to be back,” Eriksen said this Saturday at a press conference.
The Dane, now at Manchester United, recalled the collapse he suffered against Finland in the Eurocup, a moment that paralyzed the football world and led to his departure from Inter Milan and a rebuilding of his career that started at brentford.
“Because in that moment, I appreciated being alive and be with my family. The rest moved everything to the side,” explained Eriksen.
“For me personally, being part of this team is always positive. I hope I can help as much as possible, in whatever way,” he said.
Denmark will make their World Cup debut next Tuesday against Tunisia, before facing group favourites, France.
“I know we won France before, but in these tournaments France is a different team compared to the rest of the year. We know what we have to do and we really want to,” he said.
“Our team has always been strong. I believe in these guys and I think the confidence of the group has grown since I had that incident,” he stressed.
