FIFA records revenue in Qatar

Date:

The FIFA earned a record revenue of 7,500 million dollars (7,253 million euros) in four years of commercial agreements related to 2022 World Cup in Qatar, soccer’s governing body said on Sunday. FIFA announced its earnings to its more than 200 members. This figure represents 1,000 million more than the income of the previous commercial cycle, which was linked to the World Cup in Russia in 2018.

Qatar Energy joins as Tier 1 sponsor, and new Tier 3 sponsors include Qatari bank QNB and telecommunications company Ooredoo. FIFA also added second-tier sponsorship deals this year from financial platform crypto.com and a blockchain provider, its first new US sponsor in more than a decade.

The main broadcast deals for this year’s World Cup were signed during Sepp Blatter’s presidency of the two tournaments, deals that include the tournaments in Russia and Qatar. They include deals with Fox in the US and Qatari broadcaster BeIN Sports since 2011.

FIFA’s revenue will increase to around 2.5 billion despite the COVID-19 pandemic. Revenue is likely to reach $10 billion over the next four years thanks to a new financial strategy for women’s soccer and the 2026 World Cup for the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Separate sponsorship deals are being signed for women’s soccer for the 2023 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. The 2026 men’s tournament will have 48 teams instead of 32.
